Hi,
We are interested in your product ( weatherseal ) and were wondering how
long it is expected to last in-between coats.
Thanks,
Dan
Dear Dan,
Longevity depends on many factors:
* Product ingredients & formulation
*
method of application
* temp & weather during application
* design of building
* location of building
* moisture content & surface conditions of the wood
All things being equal, if applied properly and building exposure (Southern
& Western) is not too severe figure about 3-5 years on south & west sides
of building, sometimes longer, sometimes less. Because most of our colors
are a natural wood tone, they are more vulnerable to UV degradation than
solid colors. This is not only typical to our products but to ALL transparent/semi-transparent
stains. Nonetheless, within the context of a natural wood stain, WeatherSeal
protects & performs at a high level.

Continental products: My husband and I are sales representatives
for Northern Log Homes in Bangor, ME. As fairly new representatives, we
have not used your product to date. Our home was purchased from another
Log Company years before we became representatives for Northern. We would
like to use your product, and I have read your "Weather Seal Log Home Maintenance
User's Guide" and your web site. I saw nothing in either resources that
stated the actual ingredients of WeatherSeal. I would like an ingredients
list, and I'm interested to learn:(1) if it contains paraffin, (2) our
home is currently is protected with CWF, a water-based product, (which was
the product provided by the log home manufacturer when we purchased our
log package) but needs re-coating. (3) how long the does Weather Seal lasts?
As I'm sure you are aware, virtually every customer that log home manufacturers
& sales reps talk with want to know how often they'll have to re-coat their
home. If that information was included in your resources.
Thanks for your
prompt response to our request for information.

Dear Dan & Pam,
WeatherSeal
, in addition to other water repellents, contains some paraffin. For coating
over a home with CWF on it, I would recommend WeatherSeal in the color Golden
Honey or Sunlite. WeatherSeal will out perform CWF considerably. How long
it lasts depends on the condition of the wood surface and log surface preparation,
weather and temperature during application & application technique, and
the location and design of your log home. The need to re-apply WeatherSeal
is generally about every 3-5 years (2 coats) on weathered sides of the home.
Obviously porches or areas not directly exposed to weather rarely needs
to be re-coated.
